When I leave college I intend to go in to further education at Manchester Metroplolitan University. I want to study Textiles in Practice. It’s a three year course and it offers me a chance to develop my ideas further and will hopefully help me find a career that is right for me. I want to go into further education as I feel there is a lot more for me to learn and experience and I think University is the perfect opportunity for me to grow in not just my work but as a person in general.
I have been on the university’s website many times to see what the course has to offer me and to see what entry requirements are required.
Here, I have been looking at what is going to be covered in each year. I fully understand what is required as I also had a talk with Julie at the UCAS fair that i recently attended. She is the programme leader of the course and a senior lecturer of the textiles and practice programme so it was very useful talking to her.
This is showing what my final year of University would be like and informs me about any placements that may take place during my time studying the course.
I think this website has really covered everything I need to know about the course and university life. Here it is showing any former degree shows that have taken place and also all the past students work some of which have really inspired me. A list of staff and tutors is also on this website which may help me to get to know who I may be working with and what their position is in University.
This is the prospectus I ordered which is really informative and gave me an insight as to what University has to offer me. I also had a look at any other courses that may have interested me.
Here is another University that I have had a look at. Although it is not my first choice and I don’t really want to study at this University, there is a course that specializes in all the areas I would like to study.
University of Central Lancashire offers a course ‘Surface Pattern and Textiles’ which is what I want to be specializing in. It is a great opportunity for anyone who is interesting in creating unique and wonderful designs of their own but the place isn’t for me.
At the UCAS event, I had a talk with someone from UClan which gave me more of an insight of the course and university itself. The man I spoke to explained to me that I didn’t have to go down the fashion route and that they would work with me to help me focus on the area of my choice.
I have put together a portfolio that shows a range of different techniques and media. With the help of a tutor, I have selected all of my best work and placed it on mount card to make sure I give a good impression and that my work is presented in a very professional manner. To present my drawing skills, I picked my best life drawings and included them in my portfolio. Although my strengths are in screen printing, I made sure I experimented with a variety of techniques to demonstrate my flexibility skills. I show my problem solving skills throughout continuous annotation and evaluation in my book/blog. Having one to one’s with my tutors has allowed me to strengthen my communication skills which I have also recorded on my blog.
